For his part, Ambassador Yabes pledged to work for the enhancement of relations between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, President Zardari gave the Ambassador a copy of the book "Reconciliation," by the late former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

As part of tradition, a pompous and colorful Honor Guard Ceremony was held at the quadrangle of the Presidency before the presentation of credentials.

Ambassador Yabes rode a horse-drawn open carriage surrounded and led by a platoon of saber-and-lancer-carrying mounted cavalry, and was dropped off in front of the main entrance of the Presidency.

Accompanying him in the carriage was the Chief of Protocol of the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ghalib Iqbal.

The military band then played the Philippine and Pakistani national anthems of the Philippines and Pakistan.

Joined by the Military Secretary of the President, Ambassador Yabes trooped the line of honor guards.
