Islamabad, Pakistan; 27 September
2025 - H.E. Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Philippine Ambassador to the
Islamic Republic of Pakistan, attended a high-profile event hosted by
Mr. Usman Shaukat, President of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (RCCI), in honor of Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah, Federal Tax Ombudsman
(FTO) of Pakistan. The event celebrated the exceptional performance of
the FTO in delivering swift and effective resolutions to taxpayer
complaints across the country. Held at the Islamabad Club, the event brought together dignitaries from government, business, and diplomatic circles. In attendance were Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa) Hamid Asghar Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Sweet Homes Zamurrad Khan, FTO Chief Business Advisor Sohail Altaf, and numerous trade association representatives and advisors from the FTO office. Ambassador Fernandez's participation underscored the Philippines' interest in learning from Pakistan's recent successes in tax administration. The Federal Tax Ombudsman's office has resolved 44,370 out of 50,903 complaints in the last four years-an unprecedented achievement that surpasses the combined performance of the previous two decades. This effective grievance redressal mechanism has been widely praised by Pakistan's business community as a model for taxpayer service and institutional reform. The engagement is part of broader efforts by the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad to explore areas of mutual interest and cooperation in governance, digitalization, and public service delivery. |
