ASEAN COMMITTEE IN ISLAMABAD (ACI) MEETS FEDERAL MINISTER FOR COMMERCE TO DEEPEN TRADE AND INVESTMENT TIES |

Islamabad, 23 September 2025 - The
ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI) held a productive dialogue with
Pakistan's Federal Minister for Commerce, H.E. Jam Kamal Khan, to
explore avenues for enhanced ASEAN-Pakistan cooperation in trade and
investment. The meeting reflected the growing momentum behind Pakistan's
"Look East" policy and ASEAN's openness to deeper regional engagement. Representing the Philippines, H.E. Ambassador Emmanuel R. Fernandez welcomed Pakistan's renewed focus on ASEAN and acknowledged the untapped potential in PH-Pakistan bilateral trade, which currently stands at approximately USD 350 million-largely in Pakistan's favor. Ambassador Fernandez commended Pakistan's economic stabilization measures and its vision for reform, but emphasized the need to identify specific sectors for ASEAN engagement and to address tariff and non-tariff barriers that currently impede growth. Ambassador Fernandez then encouraged Pakistani authorities to collaborate with ASEAN counterparts in clarifying regulatory frameworks and prioritizing sectors for cooperation. The Ambassador also welcomed Pakistan's interest in holding regular dialogues with the ACI to track progress, and reiterated the Philippines' commitment to a more structured and institutionalized economic partnership between ASEAN and Pakistan. |
