PASKUHANG PINOY SA ISLAMABAD 2025: FILIPINO JOY, COMMUNITY, AND HOPE ABROAD

The Philippine Embassy in Islamabad hosted Paskuhang Pinoy sa Islamabad 2025, a festive Christmas gathering for the Filipino Community (FilCom) on 30 November 2025, led by Ambassador Emmanuel R. Fernandez and Mme. Alicia Kalaw-Fernandez. The celebration offered Overseas Filipinos (OFs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) a joyous respite, bringing together friends and families for singing, dancing, potluck dishes featuring Filipino and Pakistani cuisines, games with prizes, and lively special performances.

A highlight of the event was the personal hosting by Mme. Alicia Kalaw-Fernandez, whose engaging presence encouraged participation in interactive dance numbers. The community was also treated to a Christmas Hawaiian dance by Mme. Kalaw-Fernandez and a musical performance by Ambassador Fernandez, who played the piano while singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Through his performance, the Ambassador shared a heartfelt message: happiness at Christmas does not require having a lot of things to enjoy or to give away. For the joy of Christmas comes from being grateful for life's small blessings, cherishing the moments we spend with our loved ones, and holding on to the hope that, no matter what difficulties we may be going through right now - in time -  "all our troubles will be miles away."

The gathering provided our OFs and OFWs-especially the many women who comprise the majority of the FilComs in Pakistan-with a much-needed respite: a space to relax, reconnect, and simply "be Filipino," embracing our culture even when far from home. It also supported the Philippine government's commitment to community-building and welfare, offering a welcoming environment for open conversation, shared experiences, and mutual support.

Paskuhang Pinoy sa Islamabad 2025 exemplified how Embassy initiatives foster community, uplift spirits, and provide meaningful opportunities for Filipinos abroad to celebrate their heritage, strengthen connections, and support each other-true to the Filipino spirit of joy, resilience, and hope.
